Group Class VS Personal Training – Which is better?

Personal Training vs. Group Classes:

Two Paths to the Same Goal

Here at Deep Well Athletics, we believe one thing above everything else: there is no single “right” way to train. What matters is that you find the approach that fits your life, your goals, and the version of yourself you’re working toward.

We offer both personal training and group classes — and we’re proud of both. Not because we’re trying to be everything to everyone, but because we’ve watched both styles of training genuinely transform people’s lives.

So what’s actually different between the two? And how do you know which one is right for you? Let’s break it down honestly.

What Personal Training Looks Like

Personal training at Deep Well is exactly what it sounds like: one coach, one member, one mission. Your trainer — whether that’s Zach Conjelko, Ryan Mitchell, or another member of our team — builds a program from scratch around your body, your history, your goals, and your schedule.

There’s no guessing. No wondering if you’re doing the movement correctly. No showing up and hoping today’s workout applies to what you’re working on. With PT, every single session has a reason.

“You don’t need to already be fit to start personal training. You just need a willingness to show up — we’ll handle the rest.”

PT is especially powerful for people who:

• Are new to training and want to build confidence before jumping into a group setting

• Have a specific goal — weight loss, strength, performance, injury recovery — that requires a tailored plan

• Have a busy, unpredictable schedule and need flexible session times

• Want accountability at the highest level, with someone who checks in, adjusts, and pushes you

• Are working around an injury, limitation, or health consideration

Our personal training is also available in a small group format — 2 to 4 people — which brings the personalized programming of PT together with the energy and cost-effectiveness of training alongside others. It’s one of our most popular options for a reason.

What Group Classes Look Like

Group training at Deep Well is where the community comes alive. Whether you’re in a CrossFit session, a WELLfit class, Strong60 strength session or a HYROX class, you walk into a room full of people who are showing up for the same reason you are — to work hard, get better, and do it together.

Our coaches lead every session with intention. Nothing is random. Classes are programmed to build strength, conditioning, and skill over time — and every movement is scaled so it works for all ability levels, from complete beginners to seasoned athletes.

“The energy in a group class is something you can’t manufacture. When the person next to you pushes through their last rep, it pulls something out of you too.”

Group training tends to be a great fit for people who:

• Thrive on energy, competition (friendly!), and community accountability

• Want a structured, coach-led workout without having to think about programming

• Are looking for a social experience — friendships form fast here

• Want variety — group classes change daily, keeping things fresh and fun

• Are motivated by the challenge of keeping up with and encouraging others

And here’s something that surprises a lot of new members: our group classes don’t feel like a sea of strangers. Our coaches know your name. They know your limitations. They scale movements specifically for you, even in a room of 20 people. That’s the Deep Well difference.

So What’s Actually Different?

The honest answer: the primary differences are structure, customization, and cost — not quality or results.

Personal training gives you more tailored programming, more one-on-one coaching time, and more flexibility around your individual schedule and needs. It’s the highest-touch option we offer and comes at a higher investment that reflects the dedicated coach time.

Group classes give you expert-led coaching, progressive programming, and a community of people who will push and support you every single time you walk in. It’s a more accessible entry point and still delivers real, lasting results — as hundreds of members can tell you.

The path that’s “better” is the one you’ll actually show up for consistently. That’s it.

Some members do both — they attend group classes several days a week and add a PT session once a week to work on something specific. Others start in PT to build confidence and then graduate into group classes. Others prefer one or the other indefinitely. All of it works.

How to Know Which One Is Right for You

If you’re not sure where to start, here’s a simple way to think about it:

Choose personal training if you want the most direct, customized path to a specific outcome — or if you need flexibility, high accountability, or are working around a physical limitation.

Choose group classes if you want to be part of a community, enjoy a variety of daily workouts, and thrive when you’re surrounded by other people working hard.

And if you’re still not sure? That’s exactly what our Free Intro is for.
