10 Things about Kyle
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a small town in North West Pennsylvania-home of Corry Fighting Beavers. (insert aggressive gnawing sound)
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be an architect/engineer when I grew up. I really enjoyed all things that were mechanical and liked designing and breaking things.
What was your first job?
First job was on the family farm, specifically remember having to clamp wood blocks on the pedals of the International 400 to drive the filled hay wagons back to the barn. My first job outside of the family was flipping burgers at McDonalds.
What do you love about Mooresville?
I love that Mooresville has a small town feel, yet is so close to so many activities. The lake, the City, the mountains and ocean are all within reach.
Why did you get into CrossFit?
I got into CrossFit more than 5 years ago because I was bored just going to a regular gym. I like being able to show up to pre-programmed workouts, while competing against yourself and others simultaneously. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis over a decade ago, and found consistent exercise helps fight the symptoms. For a short period of time when I was first diagnosed, I had to use a wheelchair and cane to get around and I promised myself I would do everything in my power to hopefully never be in that place again. While I know that there is not a cure, I don’t think it has been a coincidence that I have not had a single relapse since starting to exercise regularly, and MRI scans have actually showed healing of previous lesions.
Why do you coach?
I decided to start coaching because I have always naturally been attracted to leadership roles and enjoy helping others. I get more satisfaction in helping someone else achieve a goal or task more than I do myself.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about Health and Fitness?
More than anything, I wish that people took their own health and wellness more seriously because most people figure it out too late and regret not taking action sooner. The human body is amazing, and can heal itself more than most drugs or procedures ever will through healthy diet and exercise.
What is you Favorite and Least Favorite movement?
Favorite movement is called Bear Complex, I like most all complexes with moderate weight and series of movements. My least favorite movement is double-unders, for whatever reason it still hasn’t clicked yet and man does it punish you when you make a mistake!
What are you currently working on as an athlete?
Double-unders, Ring Muscle Ups, and Handstand Walks are my goals for 2018.
Anything else you would like to share with the Deep Well family?
I love being part of the Deep Well Family, and am truly grateful for having the opportunity to help coach others in their personal fitness journey. I have belonged to 5 different boxes due to the number of relocations I have done with my employer, and the amount of compassion, support and dedication we have towards each other and our sport is unmatched.
