Name:  Tara Potts

How and when did you get started with CrossFit?

When Tim and I first started dating there was a CrossFit gym that opened right beside his apartment. We decided to give it a try. I remember my first WOD had pull-ups and I literally had to use three bands to do them.

What is your favorite movement or workout?

Snatches and I like workouts that are for time.

What is your least favorite movement or workout?

Rope Climbs

What are your long term and short term goals?

Long Term – To continue to get stronger and set PR’s as well as work on and master the gymnastic movements that I cannot quite get yet

Short Term – Focus on form and mobility to ensure no injuries

What would you tell someone who is on the fence about crossfit and scared to try it?

Crossfit has scaling options to meet everyone’s abilities. You might not be able to do everything the first day, the first week, or the first month but it gives you goal to work towards.

If you try a CrossFit gym where you feel out of place or there is not a good community that is encouraging and welcoming then you are at the wrong place. Find a CrossFit gym that makes you excited to go to!

What kind of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit?
  1. I have gotten stronger. So. Much. Stronger.
  2. I have improved my diet and follow a plan to build muscle instead of starving myself to get “skinny”
  3. My mentality of body image has changed ten fold. It’s all about the muscles!!

What is your proudest accomplishment so far?
The one that stands out the most is the first time I did a strict pull up. My entire life, I could not do a pull up. Then one day, 4.5 years in to CrossFit, I had a feeling so I jumped up to the bar and did a few in a row!

Also, every time I hit a PR. It’s fun to see all of your hard work pay off!

What kind of changes have you experienced in your life since starting CrossFit that you didn’t expect?

I didn’t expect to plan my day around a workout. I am excited to get to class, see my friends, and get in a good workout. I have a set routine that I follow (almost) every day. I’ve also become mentally and physically stronger since starting CrossFit.

What do you love most about Deep Well?

The sense of community. The members at Deep Well are so friendly and welcoming. Everyone offers encouraging words when you need it the most, help when they see you struggling, and a fist bump to tell you good job and celebrate with you!

What are your hobbies, interest and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

Mountain Biking, Running, hiking, and traveling.

I guess I really didn’t know there was life outside of crossfit ;)
